Hi there, sewing friends. The Handmade Holiday Challenge starts on November 7th and I want to give you all the details. As always, the more, the merrier with sewing. So join our fun and tell your friends.
What is the Handmade Holiday Challenge?
The Handmade Holiday Challenge is a completely free challenge put on by myself and four other quilt designers and sewists – Alexandra Bordallo, Made Just Sew, This Mountain Life, and Tree Textiles. The goal is to challenge each other to sew a handmade gift for the holidays. We have tutorials ready for several simple projects perfect for gifting. Handmade gifts are the best gifts, but alas, time gets away from us every year before we can finish our many, many projects. That’s why we are doing this now before the hustle and the bustle of the holidays leads us to forget our lovely gift ideas.
How does it work?
On November 7th, you will receive an email with links to 6 different blog posts. Each blog post includes detailed instructions on how to make a hand-sewn item. You will choose one or several items you would like to make and follow the tutorial. To make this a more collaborative and fun challenge, we will all be posting our progress on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #handmadeholidaychallenge. Each of the two weeks there will be three prizes randomly given to participants who have shared a picture of their progress. The prizes include PDF quilt patterns and fabric bundles. Plus there will be a fun holiday-themed prize for everyone who has signed up for the challenge by November 7th! And the best part of all, by the end of two weeks, you will have a hand-sewn gift for the holidays.
What will we make?
There are five different tutorials to choose from. These tutorials include a quilted hot water bottle cover, a reversible applique table runner, a quilt as you go and applique pillow, zipper pouches, a free pillow pattern, and a Hannukah-themed project. You can see images of most of these projects below.
